Why isn't there a subscription?

Here's the deal: I hate subscriptions.

There's been a lot of pressure to add one to GroceryBee. Subscriptions are how most connected gadgets make money now, and every business advisor will tell you recurring revenue is the goal. But I want you to own something that keeps being useful whether or not you're paying for it every month.

How it gets paid for instead

GroceryBee costs a little more up front, and that's on purpose. Part of what you pay when you buy one is set aside to run the service that keeps your list in sync.

In other words, we take a slice of your purchase and use it to pay our future selves to keep the lights on. You pay once, and it's covered.

What that means for you

When you set up a GroceryBee, you don't need a credit card handy. You don't need one at all. Scan after scan, it just keeps working.

That's not just a nice intention; it's written into our Terms of Service. Scanning, your shopping list and syncing it with your household are free, and anything we offer free stays free. If we ever add new features down the road, some of those might cost extra, but nothing you get today will ever be moved behind a paywall.

And if PantryBee ever shuts down, we'll give 90 days' notice and publish the protocol, so GroceryBee doesn't have to become a paperweight.

What do you think?

I'd genuinely like to know. Should GroceryBee cost less up front and charge a monthly fee instead? Or is paying once the way you'd rather have it?

Tell me at contact@pantrybee.buzz. I read every message.
